PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE -

To establish sustained medical services dedicated to the care of indigent Peruvian women.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES -

1. Establish a dedicated medical clinic in Cusco, Peru that will be suitable for our needs, which includes acquiring a two-story building that will serve multiple functions. The first floor will serve as a clinic where medical care will be delivered by both Peruvian and international health care providers. The second floor will have living spaces that can be utilized by our international physicians and nurses who come to volunteer their time and services. A Peruvian physician will serve as the Medical Director of the CerviCusco Clinic.

2. Provide free medical care to Peruvian women with limited economic resources, especially those who cannot afford to receive medical attention through current governmental programs. (e.g., Social Security)

The specific medical care provided is aimed at diagnosing and treating pre-cancers of the female genital tract. Care will include:
• A gynecologic (pelvic) examination
• Cervical cancer screening with the Papanicolou (Pap) smear, visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) or screening colposcopy
• Colposcopy and biopsy (when indicated) for those with abnormal screening results
• Minor surgical procedures such as Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure-LEEP

3. Sign agreements with regional and municipal governments to establish cooperative inter-institutional relationships. These agreements will facilitate the coordination of delegations of international volunteers and donations of equipment and supplies that will be utilized for the care of Peruvian patients.

4. Sign agreements with the National Health Ministry in Peru to establish a system of patient care and provider education, which will be achieved through the following efforts:

• Establishment of a referral network: the INCCA Foundation will refer patients who need additional care to regional hospitals, and will also accept referrals from local health care providers

• Coordinate educational campaigns and health fairs in rural regions where women have poor access to health care.

• Hold education and training courses for Peruvian and international health care providers

• Offer educational workshops on cervical cancer prevention and women’s health to the general public.

5. Form a Peruvian advisory committee with representative members of the local universities, community organizations, and churches in the Cusco area.

6. Establish CerviCusco as a non governmental organization (non profit entity) that operates in conjunction with the INCCA Foundation.
